| 12/01/2009 - Hawthorne Closes First Portfolio Acquisition Hawthorne Companies/Hawthorne Residential Partners closed on its first multifamily portfolio at a purchase price of approximately $50 million dollars.
On November 12, Hawthorne closed on the first property, The Ashford Apartment community in Atlanta, Georgia, and then on December 3, closed on Springhouse Apartments in Newport News, Virginia.
The Ashford is 221 class A units, located on Ashford Dunwoody Road, between Buckhead and the Perimeter Center submarket of Atlanta. Springhouse consists of 432 units, well-located on the Jefferson Avenue commercial corridor and I-64 that connects Newport News to Norfolk/Virginia Beach.
Following these two closings, the Hawthorne portfolio has grown to over 3,700 units under management in 14 cities and 7 states.

| 03/01/2009 - Hawthorne Announces New Company Formation Ed Harrington, former President of Steven D. Bell & Company, Samantha Davenport, former Chief Operating Officer of Steven D. Bell & Company, and Shoffner Allison, Principal of Charlotte based Hawthorne Retail Partners have formed The Hawthorne Companies.
Harrington and Davenport departed from Steven D. Bell & Company after 15+ years where they were an integral part of growing Bell’s portfolio from $700 million to $6 billion with 230 properties located in 115 cities (58,000 apartments, 2,500 senior living, 5 million SF retail).
“We feel this is an opportune time to launch The Hawthorne Companies,” Harrington says. “In challenging economic climates, owners and investors recognize the importance of having an experienced operating team with a proven track record and a superior platform.”
